Geography

At Torfield, our Geography curriculum is designed to inspire curiosity and a sense of wonder about the world, both near and far. It builds on each pupil’s individual stage of development and aims to equip them with the knowledge, skills, and understanding needed to make sense of the complex and dynamic world around them.

We want our pupils to develop a deep understanding of place, space, and environment—locally, nationally, and globally. Our curriculum promotes a strong sense of identity and belonging, helping pupils to connect with their own community while exploring diverse cultures, environments, and global issues.

Through carefully structured, sequenced learning, we aim to develop pupils’ geographical vocabulary, spatial awareness, and ability to ask and answer questions about the world. We provide regular opportunities for outdoor learning and real-world exploration, allowing pupils to engage with geography in meaningful, tangible ways.

Our intent is to nurture thoughtful, informed individuals who can recognise patterns, evaluate information critically, and consider their place in the world as responsible, respectful citizens. Geography at Torfield is not just about knowledge—it’s about building a lifelong interest in the world and empowering pupils to contribute to its future.
